What Will Therapy Be Like?
I show up authentically, and create space for you to do the same.
While each person and session is personalized, here is an idea of what you can expect while working with me.
Sessions
During your first session, we’ll review your intake paperwork and get to know each other. The first session will be me asking more questions than usual to understand what you are looking for and how I can help. After that, each 50 minute session will be guided by what you want to talk about and what I think may be important to consider. In the beginning, I recommend meeting once a week for at least three weeks to get the ball rolling, then meeting every other week until your goals are met and we decide our work is done. We may talk about everyday worries or the big things you thought you weren’t ready talk about. Either way you’ll be met with compassion and understanding.
Together, we’ll work on brainstorming solutions to specific problems, learning skills to manage your stress and emotions, and figuring out how to live a balanced and meaningful life. Utilizing techniques mainly from Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), and Mindfulness approaches, I go into each session with your unique goals and preferences in mind. You are not a diagnosis, you are a complex individual and I’ll invest in your healing and be your advocate. I’ll challenge you to step outside of your comfort zone, but the pace we go and what we talk about is always up to you (and I promise you’ll never be graded).
